John McGrath is the Deputy CEO of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), an organization of nearly 15,000 professionals from around the world dedicated to serving students as they make choices about pursuing postsecondary education. Along with the NACAC CEO, he manages a staff of 60 in support of the association’s college fairs, communications, professional development, communications, research and advocacy programs. Before joining NACAC in 2012, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Communications and Outreach, where he managed the National Blue Ribbon Schools, Presidential Scholars, and President’s Education Award programs, as well as a variety of efforts to promote public awareness and engagement in K-12 school improvement. Prior to his service at the Education Department, he held leadership positions at several other Federal agencies. He is a 2014 recipient of the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service and a former member of the board of directors of International Schools Services in Princeton, N.J. He holds a B.A. from Middlebury College, an M.A. from the University of Maryland, and, in 2008, attended Harvard University Kennedy School’s Executive Education program.
